The aim of this course is to make students familiar with the basic principles and practices of governance and control in multinational firms.

Introduction to basic principles and practices of governance and control of firms operating in an international environment. The course focuses on principles of (corporate) governance more broadly, its purpose and specifics in a multinational context, and its relations to aspects of (corporate/country-specific) culture.

An overview of central practices of (management) control – as an important pillar of corporate governance – will be provided. Students will learn about planning and budgeting, financial performance and value creation, transfer pricing, strategy and performance measurement, sustainability reporting, and the (geo-)political role of firms in multinational contexts.
