Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)

Critical Social Work with Children and families

This BIP seeks to enhance knowledge, skills and values when working with diverse children and families. Students will gain:

  • Enhanced understanding of inclusion and diversity as pedagogical issues.
  • Critical analysis of interventions around disability, poverty and multiculturalism.
  • Skills in applying different social interventions in work with diverse children and families in school, family and community contexts.

TAKES PLACE AS A BLOCK SEMINAR IN ENGLISH

Location: Democritus University of Thrace, Komotini, Greece

Participants: students and staff from Greece, Innsbruck, Warsaw and other locations

This intensive course looks at critical and human rights perspectives in education, social work and social interventions in relation to sustainable development, prevention and early intervention of violence and abuse, and social inclusion of children and families. Key issues addressed include diversity, disability, migration, refugees, minorities and Roma. It is designed for students from various social studies programmes, i.e. social work undergraduate and postgraduate students studying social work, education, social pedagogy, social policy, politics and sociology.

The BIP blends four different methods in order to provide students with input, interaction and opportunities for critical reflection. 

  • Lecture/seminar sessions
  • Workshop sessions 
  • Fieldtrips 
  • Group work 

100% attendance in online and physical sessions, active participation, group presentation

Literature suggestions will be provided during the course.

TAKES PLACE AS A BLOCK SEMINAR IN GREECE IN ENGLISH

Teaching in Greece: 4-8 May 2026 inclusive 

Erasmus+ funding of €862 lump sum is available for 10 students to participate in this seminar. The funding is designed to cover expenses like travel to Komotini (best airports: Thessaloniki or Alexandropoli, then bus), accommodation, food and insurance. 

A pre-orientation meeting will be organised in March 2026 to support logistical planning. Students will make their own arrangements for travel and accommodation.
