Sommersemester 2020 | Stand: 15.01.2020 | LV auf Merkliste setzenStudents will be expected to gain familiarity with a range of methodologies, research skills and methods necessary to the critical investigation of various topics. This will form a background to the development of skills and methods necessary for the completion of a dissertation (e.g. Master’s Thesis or PhD).
These seminars will aim to equip students with some of the basic methods of qualitative empirical research (along with some important methodological approaches) with which they can ideally document and critically investigate various topics in various contexts (local, national, international). This will include conducting interviews, surveys and audience research, visual methodologies, observation and ethnography. Some important aspects of analysing qualitative data will also be covered.
In terms of teaching methods the lectures will consist of presentations on particular key research methodologies and methods accompanied by specific examples where these have been or can be applied. Students will be encouraged to take part in group activities and discussions in order to contribute to the critical discussion of the various methods.
