707702 VU Atmosphärische Strahlungsprozesse und Fernerkundung
Wintersemester 2020/2021 | Stand: 30.09.2020 | LV auf Merkliste setzenThe objective of this course is to provide a profound overview of remote sensing methods for atmospheric research and meteorology from ground, airborne and spaceborne platforms. The emphasis of this course will be on active, optical remote sensing with lasers. Passive remote sensing methods will be discussed in comparison with active lidar techniques. The participants should learn how to analyse remote sensing data and gain some insights into recent research activities.
1.) Principles of remote sensing with emphasis on active remote sensing of the atmosphere and satellite orbits
2) Scattering in the atmosphere, measurement of aerosol and cloud properties with recent example of volcanic ash observations
3) Lidar technology and principle of trace gas and water vapour measurements
4) Advanced Lidar methods
5) Wind observations from satellites and principles of Doppler Lidars
6) Comparison between active and passive remote sensing methods
7) 1 or 2-day excursion to a research centre, e.g. DLR, Meteorological Observatory of DWD, Hohenpeissenberg, or Environmental Research Station Schneefernerhaus UFS at Zugspitze.
