Territorial Strategies is a seminar course in the graduate program of Architecture at the University of Innsbruck. The course content focuses on the convergence of landscape and architecture in the Epoch of the Anthropocene, tying natural and built environment together.
The case study territory, the Alps, will be investigated through an ecological lens, focusing on their role as a geopolitical territory.
As complex logistical systems have started to shape the natural and built environment, the Alps have historically been a territory of trade and access, of resource-based wealth, and of strategic geographic location. While historical analysis is not the main focus, this course takes historic developments, which have served as a premise for settlement, into account.
The goal is to develop a series of maps and diagrams, which tell a coherent narrative on the physical formation of land(scape) and architecture within and beyond the settled fields of the Alps.
